Peer Review Process
Journal of Islamic Education Research implements a rigorous Double-Blind Peer Review Process to ensure the quality, originality, academic integrity, and scholarly contribution of all published manuscripts. In this process, the identities of both authors and reviewers are concealed throughout the review stages to maintain objectivity and fairness. Every submitted manuscript is evaluated by at least three expert reviewers with relevant expertise in the field of Islamic education and related interdisciplinary studies.
1. Preliminary Editorial Assessment
All submitted manuscripts are initially evaluated by the editorial team to ensure their conformity with the journal’s focus, scope, ethical standards, and author’s guidelines. Manuscripts must demonstrate academic relevance, originality, methodological rigor, and significant scholarly contribution to the field of Islamic education research.
At this stage, the editorial team also conducts plagiarism screening using Turnitin software. Manuscripts with a similarity index exceeding the journal’s acceptable threshold, containing unethical publication practices, or failing to comply with formatting and referencing requirements may be rejected or returned to the authors for revision before entering the peer review process.
2. Reviewer Selection
The editorial board appoints at least three independent expert reviewers who possess relevant academic expertise and research experience related to the manuscript topic. The journal applies a strict Double-Blind Peer Review Process in which reviewers and authors remain anonymous to one another throughout the evaluation process.
Reviewers are selected based on their academic qualifications, publication record, research competence, and absence of conflicts of interest. Whenever possible, reviewers are appointed from institutions different from those of the authors to maintain impartiality and academic integrity.
3. Double-Blind Peer Review Evaluation
Each manuscript is critically evaluated by the reviewers based on several scholarly criteria, including originality, theoretical contribution, methodological validity, analytical depth, clarity of argumentation, relevance to the journal’s scope, and significance for contemporary Islamic education discourse.
Reviewers provide constructive and detailed comments intended to improve the academic quality of the manuscript. Based on their evaluation, reviewers may recommend one of the following decisions:
- ➤ Accept without revision
- ➤ Accept with minor revisions
- ➤ Accept with major revisions
- ➤ Reject
The review process is conducted confidentially to preserve academic ethics and review integrity.
4. Editorial Decision
The final editorial decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief based on reviewers’ recommendations, the manuscript’s academic merit, and compliance with the journal’s publication standards. In cases where reviewer recommendations differ significantly, the editorial board may assign additional reviewers for further evaluation.
Authors are notified of the editorial decision along with anonymous reviewer comments and revision recommendations. The editorial board reserves the right to make necessary editorial adjustments without altering the substance of the manuscript.
5. Revision and Resubmission Stage
Authors whose manuscripts require revision must revise and resubmit their manuscripts within the specified timeframe. Revised submissions should include a clear response letter addressing all reviewer comments and indicating the revisions made in the manuscript.
Manuscripts requiring major revisions may be returned to the original reviewers for further evaluation to ensure that all academic concerns and recommendations have been adequately addressed.
6. Final Editing and Publication
Manuscripts accepted for publication proceed to the final stages of copyediting, proofreading, layout editing, reference verification, and formatting prior to publication. The publication schedule of accepted articles is determined by the Editor-in-Chief based on editorial considerations, publication readiness, thematic relevance, and the journal’s publication planning.
